Viking commander Valgard the Wolf (Raimund Harmstorf) has been defeated by his arch enemy Ketil in a bloody battle. He is at death's door. But he manages to help his son Kjartan (Ralf Möller) to escape, instructing him to get the notorious warrior Gunnar to come to their assistance. While fleeing, Kjartan is seriously wounded, but a farmer saves his life. His beautiful daughter Gudrun immediately falls in love with the stranger, but she is already betrothed, against her will, to Ketil's cousin. As a deadly conflict between Kjartan and Ketil begins, Gunnar the Warrior shows up to save Kjartan's life. Gunnar agrees to make Kjartan his pupil and turn him into a warrior so that he can take revenge on Ketil. A final encounter takes place between Kjartan and Ketil, which only one will survive.
